Determined to change the narrative in its urban development sector, Ogun State Government has cautioned developers to desist from embarking on development of estates without approval, as the step was counter-productive to the proper urban development management drive of government.
Commissioner for Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Tunji Odunlami gave the warning while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, expressing worries about the spate of indiscriminate developments of physical structures especially by estate developers without approval for layout.
He noted that many Real Estate developers in the State were in the habit of advertising landed property for sale on Prints and Electronic media without obtaining necessary approvals, affirming government’s determination to curb indiscriminate physical development and check the proliferation of slums in the State.
While urging them to follow due process, TPL. Odunlami said, advertising land without an approved layout was against the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law of the State, advising intending buyers to always verify the layout plan from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before purchasing any of such landed property.
He stated that anyone who buys such land stands the risk of not getting building permit of the State government, advising those who built on government land without due process to desist from such act, saying such structure risks demolition.
