In a bid to further ensure the right and protection of the citizenry, Ogun State Government has solicited the support of the Nigerian Police on Police Duty Solicitor Scheme.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, saying the scheme was aimed at ensuring a duty solicitor in every police station in the State.
Mr. Adeniran said an Advisory Committee had been put in place to compile list of solicitors who would be attached to different police stations and liaise with them, as "under the administration of criminal justice law, the police has right to visit any case and tender information", adding that efforts were on to ensure capacity building of all area commands in the State.
In his contribution, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Ajagun, noted that relationship between the Ministry and Police was germane, so as to further hasten the administration of justice, as well as ensure reduction of crime, promising that the rule of law and fundamental human right of citizens would be strictly adhered to.
He assured of investigating every case and commitment to procedural justice, seeking for the Ministry’s cooperation, in terms of prompt release of legal advice, mutual understanding between police officers and counsels, as well as issue of execution in relation to capital offence.
Also speaking, the Director, Public Prosecution, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan, urged the police not to leave gaps in their investigations, in order not to compromise cases, while seeking for continual synergy to move the State forward.
