The Nigeria’s seat of power, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja is under partial lockdown by armed security personnel to prevent the planned RevolutionNow protest in the territory.
A combined team of army, police, air force and some paramilitary personnel was deployed early in the morning of Wednesday, August 5, to the streets of Abuja, to prevent protesters from converging.
#RevolutionNow group led by Omoyele Sowore had scheduled a protest for today against ‘bad governance’ at the Unity Fountain at Maitama district in Abuja.
The leader of the group, Sowore, tweeting via @YeleSowore, said: “Police, army and airforce put in Abuja lockdown to frustrate #RevolutionNow.
“Police attack #RevolutionNow members at Unity Fountain in Abuja, protesters arrested and are being brutalized”.
Security forces fired teargas at ‘RevolutionNow’ protesters in Lagos on Wednesday morning.
The #RevolutionNow protesters had gathered at Ikeja Under Bridge holding a peaceful protest.
Armed policemen came in to disrupt the protest, firing teargas at them.
