In its bid to ensure gridlock and accident free during the 'ember' months, the RS2 Zonal Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Assistant Corps Marshal Imoh Etuk, has urged road construction companies across the zone to ensure their activities doesn't against the Corps' operational plans of making highway more safe for the users during this rainy season and 'ember' months.
He disclosed this after a constructive meeting with Reynold Construction Company (RCC) handling the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, at the FRSC Ogun Sector Command in Abeokuta, the state capital.
"Our constructive meeting with RCC is to ensure their work doesn't against all our operational plans to make the road more safe for the users during the 'ember' months.
ACM Etuk said the construction companies are expected to hasten their work to enable the highways free from gridlocks and crashes.
"We want them to put more efforts to ensure they complete their works so that all the roads can be opened for use as the yuletide rushing hours is fast approaching."
He opined that the meeting also extended to Sector, Corridor and Unit Commanders within the zone to strategies on how to consolidate more on traffic controls, operational patrols, effective rescue, public enlightenment to enable the agency achieve it's objectivity of crash and gridlock free during the festive rushing hours.
"FRSC, over the years have engaged in educating public that no demons thirsting for sucking blood during the 'ember' months. Indiscipline, bad attitude towards the use of road and disobedience to traffic rules are the demons causing road crashes when there was increase in human and vehicular movements in preparation for yuletide season.
"The yearly ugly incidents can be avoided if road users imbibe good attitude towards the use of road; obey traffic rules, avoid excess speed, reckless driving, lack of vehicle maintenance, driving under influence of drugs or alcohol, driving without valid documents and driver's licence."
The Zonal Commander, has cautioned motorists against impatience, rush and excess speed at various road construction areas pending the time the roads will be fully completed, noting that FRSC would not hesitate to prosecute erring drivers in accordance with the traffic law.
ACM Etuk also admonished the Corps operatives to always show highest level of humility, professionalism while on their duty post.
He emphasised that no FRSC personnel is expected to engage in extortion and bribery from motorists, saying they are expected to perform efficiently with utmost fair and friendly while on duty post.
"FRSC will continue to leverage on existing collaboration with other safety and security agencies to enable the highways free from crime and crash during the yuletide." He added.
