The Director, Ogun State Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS), Engr Olugboyega Ademehin, has warned vehicle owners against embarking on any journey with rickety vehicles during this ember months and beyond.
He expressed concern over the high number of road crashes that are usually recorded in the ember months, said the warning was necessary in view of the loss of lives and properties that occur as a result of accidents.
Acoording to him, Ogun VIS would join forces with other safety and security outfits in the state to have zero tolerance for any indiscipline on the part of vehicle owners that could cause misharp on the road during the ember months and beyond.
He emphasised that any driver caught floating traffic rules especially driving without valid documents, driver's licence, lack of good tyres and rickety vehicle, likely to cause menance on the road will face the punishment in accordance with the traffic rules and regulations.
The Chief VIO disclosed this after meeting with the agency's zonal commanders and other senior staffs in Abeokuta, the state's capital.
He said the meeting is highly necessary to synergies on how to collaborate with other safety and security agencies to ensure traffic crashes during the ember months reduced drastically.
The VIS boss said all the Zonal Commands of the agency have mandated to flag-off ember months campaign and embarked on aggressive sensitization exercises among motorists in the state and it will not spare any of them who violates road traffic regulations especially during the period which is characterized by high vehicular movement on the road.
He said: 'The purpose of the campaign is to call on road users, especially motorists to comply with traffic rules and regulations. Ogun VIS will not have mercy on any vehicle owners or drivers caught violating traffic rules.
“Our ember months special operations will focus on critical offences, which include overloading, use of bad, expired and worn out tyres, over-speeding and taking drugs, among many others.
We are appealing to all road users, especially drivers to be careful, drive safely and make sure their vehicles are road worthy before embarking on a journey and as well abide by all other traffic rules while on the wheel."
