It was a historical moment and celebration for the people of Kuta and Ikoyi in Osun State as the bridge linking the two ancient towns to Ede, another town in the state, was commissioned.
The bridge, which had long been ignored, received live when the military authority took it upon themselves to construct it and reconnect the two ancient town.
On Monday, September 14, 2020, when the bridge was commissioned, people of the town went agog and hailed the Olowu of Kuta, HRM Oba Oyelude Makama, for the important role he played in the reconstruction of the bridge.
Security personnel have a hard time controlling the huge traffic of residents and guests who thronged the venue of the event to witness the historic moment.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General T.Y Buratai, led top military officers to the commissioning of the bridge, which has in attendance other dignitaries such as the host Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, Deputy Governor, Benedict Gboyega Alabi, Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Senator Oriolowo, Hon. (Mrs) Taiwo Oluga and the Oluwo of Iwoland, HIM Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi, Tèlú I.
Others at the event are: HRM Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa I, the Timi of Ede land, Aragbiji of Iragbaji, HRM Oba Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun III, captains of industry, politicians and religious leaders.
Before the commissioning of the bridge, Oba Oyelude ushered dignitaries to two new state-of-the-art buildings in his Palace, and their commissioning was performed by the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General T.Y Buratai.
Oba Oyelude dedicated one of the buildings to the Army Chief, Buratai, while the second building was an Event Centre/Guest House for receiving guests and holding of meetings at the palace.
It was an elaborate event that saw all sons and daughters of Owu Kúta, Ikoyi and adjoining communities adorned in same uniform (Aso-ebi) with various band stands celebrating the link bridge they have been yearning for for over 40 years.
At the Palace of Oluwo of Kuta, guests and residents were treated to melodious Fuji rhymes by sensational musician, Abass Akande Obesere, creating an experience that will linger for so long in their memories.
