Two persons have on independence day, reportedly killed while six others seriously injured in a lone fatal accident involving an 8-seater commercial bus on Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State.
An eyewitness account said the accident occurred at a bend around Awowo village when the driver of the commercial bus with registration number FKJ 97 XY suddenly lost control and ran into a gulley.
TRACE, NSCDC, FRSC and Police operatives who rushed to the scene of the accident told our Correspondents that the dead victims had been deposited at Ifo morgue, while the injured were taken to Ijaye General Hospital same in Abeokuta.
In his reaction, TRACE Corps Commander/CEO 'Seni Ogunyemi, emphasised his earlier call for the need to drive carefully as Nigerians bask in the euphoria of 60th Independence anniversary celebration.
"The span of holiday Independence should not be misused and people should be careful, consider themselves as the only sane road users and give others chance to exercise their right of living. It is by so doing we can ensure safety driving.
"Considering the state of our roads and weather conditions which makes it worse, a good driver who wants to drive long should be patient and use his sense to determine speed limit, slow at every bend and avoid overspeeding", he concluded
