The Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, (AKSEPWA) has flagged-off its house-to- house refuse evacuation project in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The flag-off exercise took place on Tuesday 8th December, 2020 at the premises of AKSEPWMA in the Itam Industrial layout.
Speaking during the flag-off exercise, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim explained that the house-to- house refuse evacuation exercise begins with a one-month pilot scheme in Ewet Housing and Shelter Afrique Estates.
What this means is that effective from Tuesday 8th December, 2020, residents of the aforementioned estates will have their refuse evacuated by the agency free of charge for a month. To this end, the state waste management agency in conjunction with Carlin Concept International Nigeria Limited has set plans in motion to ensure a smooth house-to-house waste evacuation exercise such as the deployment of waste disposal trucks and compactors which were on display during the flag-off exercise.

He explained that countries of the world have devised means of converting environmental waste to renewable energy and Akwa Ibom State will not be left out, stating that refuse generated in the state is capable of producing energy to power industries in the Itam Industrial Park as the state government is exploring such possibilities.
The event was attended by the Hon.
