The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has commended Mr. David Sergeant (Utang Akwa Ibom), the Special Assistant to Governor on Entertainment Industry for his passion and steadfastness in promoting sport development in Akwa Ibom State which is in line with the state government completion agenda on sport development.
Mr. Udom Emmanuel made this known on Sunday during the 11th Edition of Utang Unity Cup held at Government Primary School, Afaha Offot, Uyo Local Government Area.
Represented by Mr. Akan Okon, Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport acknowledged the strides, commitment, optimism and passion of Mr. David Sergeant for consistently promoting sport in the state using his yearly football competition.
"This is a welcome development in the state, I'm very pleased with what Utang has dedicated himself to do in this category of sport development in the last eleven years.
"This competition has improved in sport development in Akwa Ibom State, year in, year out. This is in line with the agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel to promote sport development in the state".
While stating his readiness to chat a new course in the educational sector in the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced the immediate rehabilitation of one dilapidated classroom block at Government Primary School, Afaha Offot where the match took place.
He expressed dissatisfaction and displeasure over the poor state of the said primary school which he promised that work will commence in one week time for the rehabilitation of the school.
Meanwhile, the grand finale of Utang Unity Cup Competition featured Afaha Offot and Obio Offot which Obio Offot emerged as the winner of the 11th Edition of the Football tournament.
The tournament witnessed Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State represented by Mr. Akan Okon, Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, Member representing Etinan Federal Constituency, Mr. Ekong Sampson, immediate past commission for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Obong Paul Ekpo, immediate past Chairman of People's Democratic Party (PDP) Elder Ufot Ebong, SSA to the Governor on Bureau of Technical Matters and Due Process, Mr. Ndianabasi Nana Udom, SSA to Governor on Multilateral and Donor Agencies, Mr. Ime Uwah, SSA on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr. Aniefiok Iwaudofia, SSA on Youth Matters.
Others include; Mr. Raphael Edem, SA on Public Affairs, Mr. Victor Umondak, SA on Protocol, Mr. Bassey Archibong, SA on Protocol, Mr. Borono Bassey, PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Morgan Ekanem, PA on Public Affairs, traditional institutions, groups, amongst others.
High point of the tournament featured presentation of trophy and cash prizes to the first position team (Obio Offot) and gold medals to the second and third places.
