...says pockets of unrest recorded are masterminded by enemies of the State trying to hit up the polity
The Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom State, SP Odiko MacDon, has stated that the state prides itself as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force will ensure that the standard is maintained.
The Police PPRO on a phone interview with Inspiration FM this morning disclosed that the recent unrest in the State is fueled by enemies of the State trying to hit up the polity.
"The police is aware of all that is happening and are taking drastic steps to curtail future occurrences. It is unfortunate when you see enemies of the state trying to hit up the polity in the state. The Police as an internal security will not fold its arms to watch perpetrators of hooliganism take over the town. This state prides itself as one of the most peaceful states and we will ensure that we maintain that." the PPRO said
Fielding questions on the riot incidence that emanated from Nassarawa in Itam yesterday, he said that the mastermind of the incidence is in police custody, adding that the police has taken charge of the area and the peace which has been returned will also be sustained by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
He countered rumours of death as peddled on social media, but confirmed that two persons sustained injury and are responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The PPRO said the clash which broke out at Nassarawa resulted from a breakdown in communication between those utilising the axis and those who feel they are loyal to a particular person in touting.
Mr. MacDon commended some peaceful youths in the area and charged others who fueled the crisis to desist from hooliganism.
On the recent cases of robbery in the State, the PPRO said it is not unconnected with the yuletide and "cases like this are characterized by people who want to reap where they did not sow".
He called on perpetrators of crime to desist as the strategy of the Commissioner of Police will be very stern.
Macdon added that men of the Nigeria Police Force will be more visible and there will be robust interference at strategic locations to maintain peace in the State.
