The Ogun State Government has continually pledged to give adequate attention to the welfare of traditional institutions in the state as their roles in the society cannot be over looked.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Afolabi Afuape who made the assurance during a courtesy visit to the paramount ruler of Ijebu Lands, Oba Sikiru Adetona and the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi, said it was through the Obas that the government can reach the people at the grassroots, thereby there is need to seek for their input in the affairs of the government.
Honourable Afuape, noted that the Obas’ support and cooperation as the custodian of customs and values would go a long way in helping the present administration achieve its promises to people of the State.
“This visit is to seek for your support, cooperation and advice, as the custodian of customs and values; we are rest assured that with your support and prayers we will not fail”. The Commissioner said.
The Commissioner who said the government could not work without carrying the Obas along in the affairs of the State assured that the statutory meeting of Obas where feedback from the people at the grassroots are heard would always hold as at when due.
In his remarks, Oba Sikiru Adetona, said “the state is blessed with many resources in which the government needs to tap into”, adding that with the set of people that have been called to work with the governor, the state would be transformed in no time.
Also, in his remarks, Oba Adewale Ajayi, appreciated the government for timely payment of Obas’ allowances, he enjoined the Government to take the issue of security with all seriousness promising it support for community policing.
