Dr. Odedina stated this while receiving a team, led by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Transformation Office, Mr. Jola Oyeneye and the representative of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), Ms Ibukun Ajao in his office. He added that, the present administration’s vision in agriculture was to increase productivity of small scale farmers, without spending much money.
He said government was poised to utilise agriculture as a means of providing sustainable jobs for the youth, to enable them become employers of labour, as well as encourage industrialisation, maintaining that it was essential to engage young people and train them on agricultural value chain system.
"One of the problems we have in the development of agriculture in Nigeria is that, we all want to have a say in its development. The only avenue we have for development in Nigeria is agriculture. When we are talking about jobs for young people, we must begin to look for those who must be trained on agricultural value chain opportunities”, he said.
Speaking earlier, the DAWN representative, Ms Ibukun Ajao, indicated that one of the major initiatives of the Commission was to develop agriculture, revealing that it had succeeded in understanding its marketing side, while striving to grasp the administration of the agricultural market.
She said beyond the buying and selling, the demand driven-approach to agriculture and proper management of the sector would also attract more investments into the State, saying, ‘’at the Commission, we also facilitate learning in all South Western States, synergise to make things work for the betterment of these states”, Ajao stated.
