General Diya (Rtd) Tasks Nigerian Youths on moral values

The African Lad and Lasses Brigade have flagged-off a week-long 2021 leadership training "train the trainers" in Ota, the ancient city of Aworiland in Ogun State.




The programme that had its attendant of Lad and Lasses across Nigeria and Benin Republic was organised strictly with COVID-19 protocols.

Speaking while declaring open the camp, the Movement's National President, retired Lieutenant General, Oladipo Diya, tasked the participants and Nigeria youths to have moral values and self discipline in the society.

General Diya (rtd) who ably represented by Barr (Chief) Kehinde Diya, urged the participants to observe all protocols, rules and regulations throughout their staying in the camp, adding that nobody, among the camping participants is expected to misbehave neither involved in extremist that can tarnished the image of the movement.   

While briefing the importance of the movement in the society, Brigadier General, CSP Oni Odunlami (rtd), said the movement was established to trained children on how to be self disciplined in the society in accordance with the scripture of Holy Bible.

He said movement allowed children to hear the word of God and as well dwelled on it.

Rtd CSP Odunlami said Boys Brigade is the first Christian uniformed organization established in the world, adding that it provide opportunities for children and young people to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian faith. 

He appealed to the Lad and Lasses to continue make influential contributions in the community and the world through their leadership training, discipline and other mutual experiences.

Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, who was ably represented by Olu of Atan-Ota, Oba Adeniji Akinyemi Esiyemi, stressed the need for youths to always desist from behaving abnormally in the society. 

He said involving in crime and other social vices does not take them to higher position rather than jeopardising their future, while urging them to have moral awareness and understanding of what makes a "good" person.

He appreciated the leaders of the movement for establishing such an organisation that would continue to enable youths to have moral knowledge and understanding in the society, saying the best way to instill morals in children is to act on what they taught. "It is very difficult for a child to remember what they hear, but it is simple for them to act what they see."

The Kabiyesi appealed to youths to shun terrorists, robbers and all sorts of criminals that's currently destroying the country.

Chief Commandant (Mrs) Magaret Abiye Ojo, also appealed to the camp participants to continue dwelled in the words of God. 

She said the importance of the movement is to train youths on moral values and self disciplined which would ever remain in their heart as long as they live on earth.

The 61-year-old woman, who said had joined the Lasses over 51 years ago, disclosed her readiness to be member as long as she lives on earth.

"I enjoyed the movement and I had took it as physical exercise, How I wish the youths could emulate it as part of physical exercise that can continue to keep them fit anywhere they found themselves," Mrs Ojo, added.
