FRSC cautions motorists against assaulting personnel on duty

*The Corps sets to deploy personnel to enforce traffic rules around Third Mainland Bridge ...The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has set to deploy its personnel to critical corridors where demand will be higher around the Third Mainland Bridge to tackle taffic gridlocks that might emanated from partial shut down of the bridge for another phase of repair, the Lagos State Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, has said.
The deployment, according to the Corps Commander Ogungbemide is to ensure motorists have less stress and inconveniences as Federal Government planned to shut down the bridge for six months for maintenance work, starting from July 24, 2020. 
The Federal Government planned was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Olukayode Popoola on Monday July 6, 2020. 
Corps Commander Ogungbemide, said FRSC will work in collaboration with other safety and security agencies to ensure maximum safety and security of road users are quaranteed during the period of repairing the bridge.
He said without doubting, the closure would provoke lots of demands, pains and inconvenience for Lagosians and all palliatives to live with expectation has been discussed with other safety and security agencies on how to tackle the challenges and do the needful with the cooperation of members of the public to make the exercise less of pressure, inconvenience and risk to all Lagosians.
"As an FRSC saddled with responsibility of making highway safe for the users, we will mobilised and deploy officers at the corridors where their demand will be higher. Under this situation, the pressure will be more around Lagos Mainland axis because its alternative route.
"We are going to reassign our men to where their services would be more required and I will also have meeting with all the Unit Commanders to alert them on the challenges ahead. We cannot afford to fail the task."
"Motorists should not undermine the fact that they are going into a very hard time for the next six months, the should be well prepared and be mindset that the traffic and inconveniences would be very high, but it will also be very easier if all motorists comply with the traffic rules, drive cautiously, patiently, avoid road rage and obey traffic management officers on duty controlling and enforcing the traffic rules."
He said no motorist is expected to assault any FRSC personnel while on their legitimate duty, adding that anyone caught with such act would likely be prosecuted in accordance with traffic law.
He decried worrisome as some motorists derived joy in assaulting FRSC personnel while on duty, saying nobody under the Constitution permitted to assault any goverment official while on duty and anyone feel cheated on officers' approach, have every right to report such to higher authority than engaging in physical assault with officers.
The newly Sector Commander pledged that FRSC personnel would always be visible in critical corridors to enforce traffic rules in all areas where motorists always witness traffic jam in the state.
He appealed to motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good conditions with functioning components before driving on the road especially during this raining season.
Corps Commander Ogungbemide stressed his appealing to FRSC personnel to always work diligently, more dedicated to the job and abstain from any form of indiscipline that could reduce or tarnish the image of the Corps. 
He said all FRSC personnel are expected to work in accordance with the Commission's principle to enable it maintain its good reputation and target of maximum reduction of road crashes.
