Presenting the certificates to Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, on Tuesday, INEC South-south National Commissioner, May Agbamuche-Mbu, said the governor fulfilled all the constitutional requirements to emerge winner of the election.

Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defeated his closest challenger, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election to secure another term of four years.

He secured 307,955 votes across 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the state while Ize-Iyamu polled 223,619 votes.

The governor won in 13 LGAs while the APC candidate won in five.

Governor Obaseki promised to be generous to the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu despite he is yet to concede the election, the national leadership of his party has since accepted the results.

The re-elected governor, added that he had no issues with Ize-Iyamu and will have a conversation with him if he comes through.

He stated that Ize-Iyamu was not the problem but the people around him who lured him into the APC.

Obaseki said: ”This is not the first time I’m contesting election with Osagie Ize-Iyamu. I will be magnanimous, if he comes through, we will have that conversation. I think the problem is not him, I know. The problem is those around him, the ones who lured him to APC party. I have no issues with him.”

He vowed to commit himself in serving the people of Edo.

He said: ”it’s quite humbling, and only the grace of God can do that. To be able to leave your party and move to another party to contest and yet win is humbling. We have so much to be grateful to God for.”
