Obaseki warns Oshiomole against causing problem in Edo, says he won't have mercy for him if tried to foment trouble

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has warned the former governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, against fomenting trouble in the state.

The duo fell out in the buildup to Saturday’s governorship election in Edo.

Oshiomhole, who was instrumental in Obaseki’s victory in 2016, turned against him and supported Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was his major rival in 2016.

On Saturday, the governor went on to secure 307,955 votes across 18 local government areas of the state while the APC candidate polled 223,619 votes.

Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Obaseki, said Oshiomhole would not be shown any mercy if he continues to misbehave, adding that he has no plans to drive him (Oshiomhole) out of town.

He urged the former APC national chairman to tame his “lions and tigers” and give room for peace in the state.

“I don’t have any plans to [drive him out of town],” the governor said.

“But if he continues to behave the way he has always done, if he continues to be disruptive, if he continues to fund his lions and tigers in Edo state and tries to create problems for us here, then we would not have any mercy. So it is totally up to him.”

Speaking further about his relationship with Oshiomhole, he said their values do not align, adding that “everybody should maintain their lane.”

He said it’s the former governor’s responsibility to rebuild trust between them.

Obaseki also described the duo of Oshiomhole and National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, as unconstitutional actors who pose “danger to our democracy.”

He accused them of trying to overlord themselves over people who have constitutional authority.

“The challenge with people like Oshiomhole and Ahmed Tinubu is that if they do not accept and change their style and attitude, they pose a big danger to our democracy because they are extra-constitutional players,” the governor said.

“They constituted themselves into what they say they are without any constitutional responsibilities and try to overlord themselves over people who have constitutional authority and if we allow them to continue it will destroy our democracy.”
