It was providence that saved all the passengers of a commercial bus coming from Ibadan, Oyo State, into Lagos State in the afternoon of Thursday, September 17, when the bus they were travelling in tumbled on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The bus, painted in the colour of Oyo State commercial vehicles of white and green and with number plate AGL 855 YA, was said to have left Ibadan and was heading towards Obalende area of Lagos when the driver lost control of the vehixle, making it to tumble at the UNILAG Waterfront area inwards Adekunle around 4.00 p.m.

It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle was on top speed when the vehicle, apparently due to burst tyre, lost control and the rail on the bridge prevented it from plunging into the lagoon.

According to the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) which announced the lone accident on its Twitter handle @followlastma on Thursday afternoon, all the passengers in the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries but there was no death.

The injured passengers were promptly treated of their injuries by the mobile ambulance of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) while those who sustained injuries that needed to be treated in the hospital were taken away from the scene by the ambulance.

The passengers were eventually put in another vehicle for the completion of their journey.

According to the statement by LASTMA: “Lone accident involving a bus on Third Mainland Bridge at Unilag Waterfront inward Adekunle with casualties attended to by @followlasema ambulance.

“The vehicle has just been evacuated by our tow truck.”
