*To train and aggregate young farmers
The Ogun State Government has set to partner with Agro Park Farm Estate as an efforts to industralise agriculture that would aggregate farmers to meet desired targets.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, who made this revelation while on a facility visit to Agro Park Farm Estate, Ayetoro, Ijale, Ogun State. He noted that the partnership would thrive when both parties agree to train and aggregate farmers under the State Government’s farmer-support programme like the Anchor Borrower Programme and others.
Odedina, said there won’t be reasons for job creation, if the State Government is not able to link young and smart farmers who are capable of supplying primary products (raw materials) to industries that need them.
He reiterated the current administration’s vision to industrialise agriculture, which would promote food security, while it would give jobs to young people in the PPP setting, noting that young people need to see the success of their colleagues before they can venture into such business.
He also echoed the need for Public Private Partnership in the agric sector as a way of industrialising the sector, as well as training young farmers across the State, noting that when young farmers are not well trained, production targets would not be met.
While reacting to the visit of the Commissioner and the team from the Ministry, the Chief Operating Officer of Agro Park, Mr Ayodele Alabi revealed that despite the fact that modern youths prefer white collar jobs to farming, Agro Park farmers are making phenomenal difference in agriculture.
He also opined that the company is ready to partner with the State Government to take agriculture to the next level, by aggregating, training and re-training of young willing farmers to tow the line of the State Government’s vision of making the State the food basket of the nation.
