BY OLALEKAN AYENI: Lagosians are appealing to Lagos State Government to repair the failed sections of the Lagos/Abeokuta expressway especially between Ahmadiyya to Ajegunle in Alagbado.
Though the expressway was a Federal Government road, the deplorable state of the road had brought untold hardship to residents of Lagos State.
Many lives and properties have been lost as a result of fallen trucks and tankers at the deplorable sections of the road especially at Obadeyi, Ijaiye, Salolo, Kola Bus Stops, along Expressway.
The residents, motorists and transport stakeholders are appealing to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to come to their rescue to repair the fallen sections to reduce the unquantified lost and stress being encountered on a daily basis.
Information Carrier gathered that several motorists trapped at the expressway on Saturday, February 8, when a container crossed the highway after it fell due to the deplorable condition of the road and thereby caused serious traffic gridlocks.
The potholes in some sections have divided the expressway, thereby causing severe traffic jam, fallen of containers, tankers and breaking down of vehicles due to the gullies on the expressway. Perhaps, this had made driving so difficult and uninteresting on daily basis.
It was further learnt that it takes more than three hours to drive between Abule-Egba to Ajegunle in Alagbado for a journey of 10 minutes and this at times, made commercial transporters hiked fares from N100 to any undisputable amount because a vehicle had fallen in an attempt to negotiate a pothole or gully.
The potholes have caused a lot of damage to vehicles plying the route.
The residents are appealing to Governor Sanwoolu to listen to the agitation and find drastic solutions to the stress of the Lagosians plying the road.
