*Set to establish Task Force to check compliance level of vehicle operators and other road users
BY OLALEKAN AYENI: The Ogun State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has organised a sensitization programme aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on the effects of the pandemic and government directives on enforcement of personal protective materials especially within the state.
RS2.26 Idiroko Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, while speaking at the programme, said it was organised in accordance with the directive of Sector Commander, CC Ahmed Umar, in line with FRSC 2020 Corporate Strategic Goal, to compliment goverments' efforts on fight against the COVID-19 ravaging the whole world which Nigeria is not excluded from its adverse effects on economy, education, religion and social life.
He said: "Honouring our invitation is an evidence that we are partners in progress.
"Essence of this meeting is to further sensitise our numerous stakeholders on the effects of Corona Virus Disease and government directives on enforcement on personal protective materials.
"FRSC have observed that many motorist and other road users has thrown caution into the wind and negligent, after the gradual easing of lockdown as declared by the Government.
"Some people believe that the pandemic is not real, while others are of the opinion that it is the disease that afflicts on the rich. Research has revealed that men and women, old and young, rich or poor has contracted the disease, many of them had died.
"The fight against the deadly disease is still on, it is a battle that we must all engage in, so that our lives and that of our loved ones can be protected. "Although, concerted efforts has been made by government and corporate bodies to curb the spread of COVID-19, there is a lot still to be done, until our country is totally free from the ravaging effect of this deadly virus.
"Now that daily activity such as Markets, Privates and Public offices, as well as travelling barn from one place to another has been lifted, government has mandated all concerned agencies to embark on immediate enforcement and usage of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) in public places. Please note that there is punishment for anyone who flaunts or disregard these government directives.
"Available data has it that the numbers of people contracting the disease is increasing daily and we cannot afford to fold our hands and close our eyes to the realities.
"Goverment minimum required safety standards by all stakeholders includes: Provision of personal protective materials or equipment in their parks and garages, factories and offices.
commercial vehicles are to load in average capacities. In order words, vehicles that usually carry eight (08) passengers before the outbreak of Coronavirus should not carry more than four (04) passengers to allow social distancing between passengers.
"All passengers, driver and motor-boy must use face mask (nose cover), use disinfectants at least once in a while. Vehicles with air-conditioning should use nose guard or open the window.
"This rules and regulations above are for both private and commercial vehicles, including tricycles and motorbike.
"Coronavirus is no longer a rumour as many people think, it is not a lie but real. A task force will soon be set-up to check the compliance level of vehicle operators and other road users."
